I am a twenty-something girl living her dream in Italy. I caught the travel bug a few years back, and have yet to have cured it.

I come from New Zealand/Kiwi Land/Aotearoa/NZ/Middle Earth, whatever you’d like to call it. When I finished High School, I was (and still kinda am) unsure as to that career i’d like to pursue. Most of my friends knew what path they wanted to choose, which at the age of 18, made me feel insecure and frustrated. I decided to have a “year off” to earn some money and spend a bit of time in the real world. After about 6 months of full time work, I decided to look into being an Au Pair in France. Little did I know that I’d live in Paris for 2 years!
Within a week of searching, I found an amazing host family, and booked a ticket to Paris leaving 30 days later. I spent one year in Paris, learning the French language, culture and history. Unfortunately my visa ended after my one year abroad, and although I was not ready to move back to New Zealand, the law told me I had to.

Once back in Kiwi Land, I was so unhappy. Who can go from living in the city of lights and love – to living back in a small city? where everything was the same as before you’d left. My heart ached to be back in Paris, so treated myself to a one month holiday in Paris for my 20th Birthday. Whilst I was back there, my desire to live in Paris again grew even more as I realised how much I really did love that city. I was determined to come back.
My lovely host family was kind enough to offer me to work for them another year as their Au Pair, of course I said yes!

That time round, I really focused on learning French, and tried to make the most of my time by travelling to different places in Europe. During my travels, I realised I also had a deep love for Italy. Whilst sitting at a restaurant in Positano, I made myself a promise that one day I would come back to Italy, and live there at some stage in my life.

I now write this from my apartment in Florence. I am two weeks into living here and can’t wait for what the future brings. I have found I have a great passion for Photography and will be attending Photography classes for two months whilst living in Florence. I am learning more and more about myself and what I like as the days go by, and i’m just trying to find my place in this big world.
